Massive crowds at Santa Pod saw a spectacular and eventful show, here are a few of my pics from the day.
Jet Funny Car, "Firestorm" about to launch for a 254 mph pass.
Top Fuel Funny Car, "Showtime" on track.
Top Fuel Funny Car, "Shockwave" on track.
Top Fuel Altered on track.
FireForce 3 makes a 270 mph pass.
Paul Gower on the wheelie motorbike, Paul Bailey on Colossus, the V8 Jet Trike.
Paul lights up the jet.
The wheelie Firetruck "Backdraft"
If there's a promo girl, I'll find her! Siobhan working for Castrol.
A 60ft Bertie Bassett!!!!
Rather more abstract than I would have like, but at that speed? gimme a break!
How to light a bonfire? ask Ronnie Piccardo in the Jet Truck "Roaring Thunder"
Roaring Thunder on track in the dark.
Fireworks over the top end.
Shortly after the first firework display the old Santa Pod favourite FireForce 1 fired up for a night run.
I started my digi cam rolling and watched in horror as the jet car burst into flames after about 60 feet,
Tony would have instinctively operated the shut down system which also fires the parachute,
the car bounced off the safety wall and came to rest around the eigth mile mark, thankfully the fire crew were
with the car before it stopped rolling.
It looked impossible for anyone to survive the inferno as 30 gallons of fuel lit up the night sky.
All around breathed a huge sigh of relief as we heard over the PA system "Tony is out and he's OK"
I continued filming until the memory card was full.
When I spoke to a crew member later, he told me that Tony was being treated for smoke inhalation
but would be OK, the film I shot will be made available to the team. _________________ How many forums am I on? don't ask!!! |

Thanks folks, it was chuffing cold that day, but lots of fun to be there for the last big show of the year, shame about FireForce One, but at least Tony got out in one piece.
The worst bit was getting out again _________________ How many forums am I on? don't ask!!! |

I think the good lord was looking down and said "I'm not having him up here, he'll burn the place down!" _________________ How many forums am I on? don't ask!!! |
